These are the final boards and some pictures of the model that were presented on Wednesday, October 22, 2010. The problem given was to design a celebration center for small boats. Phil Bolger was used as an inspiration for the design. My design proposal took a playful twist on the stereotypical aspects of boats and the hobby of boating. In the beginning, the design was a huge shell of a building that had an open floor plan, but this design didn't speak what I was trying to get across from my main idea. In the end, I split up the spaces into their individual entities. Each building has a unique roof support structure allowing surprise in each building. Probably the most noticeable aspect of the design in the elaborate board walk. This idea was sparked off the every day dock. What if instead of tying boats to the dock, the buildings proposed for the celebration center took their place? Because of this village like organization, I was able to play with the viewer's perspective by offering glimpses of the harbor, but not a true great view until they entered a building or strolled across the shorline boardwalk. Rewarding the viewer with a view was also a large factor in the arrangement of buildings.
I really like how you went with the idea of separate structures and how you focused on circulation.
ReplyDeletesolid board layout, it reads really well. i like how you created this town or village of boats. its almost like its only colonial village/boat town inside of the, your dabbling in urban design.
